elisi: Doctor and Companion telling stories (Memory TARDIS)
Some of you may remember, but almost 6 years ago Promethia created a wonderful spreadsheet of Classic Who, giving an overview of the showrunners and descriptions of the different eras.

Recently I became inspired to do one for New Who. It's a bit more comprehensive than the one for Classic Who, and very much my own take on everything. Also it's a little tongue-in-cheek.

Spoilers for everything aired so far.

Here be spoilers for Doctor Who 2005-2025 )

Please note that I will (at some point) probably write up some actual thoughts about Disney Who so far. However I have all the time in the world for that, so just be aware that this is not the post for yelling about last night's episode. I mean - you may yell, but I'm very zen about it all. đŸ«¶

elisi: 15 brings a butterfly back to life (15)
Lovely interviews with RTD, Ncuti, Millie, Golda Rosheuvel (Jocelyn) andJinkx Monsoon (Maestro):

Doctor Who's Russell T Davies, Ncuti Gatwa, Millie Gibson and season 1 cast tease an emotional Doctor and "astonishing" finale to a series that'll "blow your socks off"
Find out what's in store when The Doctor and Ruby Sunday return to our screens on BBC iPlayer and BBC One from 11 May

A couple of lines that stood out for me:

"It’s time for a new Doctor who carries those emotions on the surface more visibly instead of hiding them away. The Doctor doesn’t just wear one heart on their sleeve; they wear two hearts on their sleeve."
-RTD

"There is an element of [the Doctor's] character that's constantly searching for something, but also constantly running away from something. That’s a really nice dynamic to play."
Ncuti Gatwa

elisi: The Timeless Child (She was the universe)
So, before we start I just want to link to this brilliant and hilarious post which chronicles the sheer ridiculous amount of lore that we now have. :)‹

Now this essay is about 5k long and roams all over Thirteen’s era as well as Fourteen and what we have of Fifteen so far, as well as looking at the Master, the Time War, the Flux, Gallifrey and Earth. So basically: Spoilers for everything. But, we think we have created a solid understanding of what The Timeless Child means for the Doctor and the show, and how it all hangs together. And it’s pretty neat! ^_^

ETA: On AO3 here.

Look after the universe for me. I've put a lot of work into it. )
elisi: Edwin and Charles (Children in Need)
BBC: Exclusive Extra Scene of Doctor Who to air during Children in Need! :D

And via RTD on instagram (edited lightly for possible spoilers):

THIS FRIDAY as part of Children in Need, a fully scored and FX’d five-minute scene, produced by scott_handcock and directed by jamiedonoughue, music by murraygold, written by me. The new Whoniverse arrives on Friday 17 November! Worldwide? No idea, my monkeys. But if you can, please contribute to the most wonderful cause â™„ïžâ™„ïžâž•đŸŸŠ

(I have literally just glanced at the headline on BBC, NO SPOILERS PLEASE!)
elisi: (Doctor Who)
The Whoniverse lands tomorrow.

And RTD has an Instagram post.

(Am too tired to add pictures, but it looks very shiny!)

ETA: And on Tumblr.

ETA2: And - somewhat randomly and not connected to this post except it's Doctor Who, I uploaded this vid by arefadedaway, which was first posted in 2007 and now long since gone from the internet. S1-3 and not at all Christmassy - it's all about loss and the Doctor's response to it. The music is the 'Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Christmas Eve / Sarajevo 12/24':

The official DW account tweeted out this:

I also came across this ~fabulous~ little trailer:

Anyway, since I have been battling with a fic for like, ever (it features the Seeker, Josh & Jamie - I ♥ my OCs, even if they will NOT behave when it comes to this fic), I occurred to me that maybe I should post the background/origin stories for Josh & Jamie that have been sitting in my drafts since forever. So I made a start! I've called it 'Family Fortune' (since it's all about their respective families) and the first story is 'Mothers and Daughters' (4 short chapters, only just over 4k words altogether), and it can be found here:

Mothers and Daughters

For the like... um... three people who might be interested? /wildly optimistic

Now this particular story is basically unashamed baby fic, and you need know nothing about my AU 'verse (or even Doctor Who) - it could be original fiction, tbh, and the premise is very simply: 'What if your (beyond adorable) baby was... not quite what it seemed?'

RUSSELL!!!

no title

From RTD's instagram.

Context for those not familiar with Doctor Who:

DOCTOR: I could bring down your Government with a single word.
PM: You're the most remarkable man I've ever met, but I don't think you're quite capable of that.
DOCTOR: No, you're right. Not a single word, just six.
PM: I don't think so.
DOCTOR: Six words.
PM: Stop it!
DOCTOR: Six.
(The Doctor goes over to the aide and whispers in his ear.)
elisi: he just BEAMS (Aziraphale smile)
Today you get a few diverting and entertaining things. :)

And Russel T Davies is trending on Twitter (♥), so have this delightful thing I came across:

Anyway, he's trending because his new show starts tonight! Article here:

Russell T Davies: ‘I looked away for years. Finally, I have put Aids at the centre of a drama’
The acclaimed screenwriter recalls his life during the 1980s Aids crisis, and reveals why it is only now, with his new TV series It’s a Sin, that he feels able to tell a story that has haunted him for decades

It's a Sin starts tonight at 9pm on Channel 4!

I saw an advert for this drama ('It's a Sin') just the other day and thought it looked interesting. I am even more interested now.

goodbye Sarah

My 14 year old wanted to do a Doctor Who re-watch, so we started with [New Who] S1. It's all rather lovely and my hat off to RTD. He did an amazing job. And then last night we watched The Long Game, which I mostly remembered for 'Adam, the bad companion'. Except that's not what it's about... (the clue is rather in the title)

And this line really made me sit up:

EDITOR: Create a climate of fear and it's easy to keep the borders closed. It's just a matter of emphasis. The right word in the right broadcast repeated often enough can destabilise an economy, invent an enemy, change a vote.

HI THERE WARNING FROM THE PAST! Isn't it fun to have seen this play out in real time and living in the midst of it?

Sorry

Have tons of comments to reply to, I'll get there at some point. Twas a busy weekend, sorry.

ETA: Oh, and I watched episode 1 of A Very English Scandal.

Interesting interview with RTD here:

Russell T Davies: “Living as a gay man is a political act”
A Very English Scandal: the former Doctor Who writer on hate mail, two decades of writing gay characters – and adapting the Jeremy Thorpe affair for the BBC.

Interview with RTD, mostly about a Midsummer Night's Dream.

But full of other good stuff too.

DID YOU KNOW HE GOT MARRIED?!?

(A Midsummer Night's Dream is on BBC One 8.30pm on Monday)
elisi: Edwin and Charles (Have you met the wife? by kathyh)
Via [livejournal.com profile] gillo (here) this simply made my day. RTD and Moffat are honestly the bestest/most geekiest/fannish showrunners ever. And this proves it. ♥

It all started in DWM 482 when a fan wrote in to ask whether the Doctor was a bigamist, since he was obviously married back on Gallifrey, but has since married Elizabeth I, Marilyn Monroe and River Song. And since it's a show about time-travel, he could easily travel back to when any/all of them were still alive... For the full reply (which is worth reading!!!) go here, but for now the important thing is that in his response Moffat claimed that the Doctor's marriage to Liz I could have been annulled as it was never consummated. RTD took issue with this:

"I love your list in DWM 482 of the Doctor’s many wives. Did you ever think we’d be having that conversation, 10 years ago? But
what’s this? His marriage to Queen Elizabeth the First was unconsummated? But, but, but
in The End of Time Part One, the Tenth Doctor arrives on the Ood-Sphere to greet his old friend Ood Sigma with the words, “Got married. That was a mistake. Good Queen Bess. And let me tell you, her nickname is no longer
ahem.” So, what does that mean, boss? What can it possibly mean?? Steve, what does it MEAN??? Thank you."

Moffat's reply )

I can't even. ALL HAIL THE MOFF! (And dear old Rusty.) ♥ ♥ ♥

So, the only response to this news, is this vid:

(Let's laugh, not cry. By which I mean - no liquids! Although Doctor/Rose fans - respect. You know how to stan)

ETA: Also, we all know that Rose wasn't Ten's true love... (I couldn't help myself.)

And to prove that I'm equal opportunities, Moffat-era equivalents (sort of. Moffat is less... melodramatic):

Moves Like Jagger (Eleven)

Booty Call (River/Eleven)

Last Friday Night (Ponds)

(This backfired slightly, because all the Pond vids just made me TERRIBLY nostalgic. MAH PONDS! I MIIIIIIIISS YOU!)

Stuff that popped up during discussion in the previous post which I feel the need to share.

Re. The Stolen Earth:

It is the most magnificent, bollocking mental, bloody wonderful extravaganza ever seen on screen. That is a fact. It's like having chocolate, and whisky, and steak, and cigarettes, while making love to a porn star on a luxury yacht in outer space. Dear God, it's brilliant.

And from when he was plotting out The End of Time:

So, I think the Master should disguise himself. He could dye his hair blond. In a public toilet. He's scrubbing away at the sink. That puts in mind an Ortonesque, post-watershed scene where the Master is dying his hair like a rent boy, and a smart businessman comes in cruising, and the Master takes him into a cubicle, and murders him. Maybe after sex. That won't happen, for obvious reasons, but I thought of it anyway. Oh, and he could grow a beard, then he really is the Master! Yeah, that could work. And somebody could still say, 'You look like the Prime Minister.' 'Yeah, I get that a lot.' Nice.

And this is why I luff him. ♥
