Vids recs and a little meta.
These are the vids that have made me flail recently. Divided according to topic.
The Doctor
Space Oddity by
elderberryink.
Summary: The Doctor's journey in S6.
(Honestly I'm rather at a loss when it comes to describing this. It's like a masterclass in vidding... Everything - clips, cutting, editing, use of lyrics and music - everything is amazing. The sheer cleverness is very impressive, but it also has some truly outstanding emotional moments. I honestly can't see any vid telling his S6 story better.)
Shake It Out by
zanra.
Summary: I like to keep my issues strong/It’s always darkest before the dawn.
(This one is really more 'The Doctor + Team TARDIS'. It tracks the changes throughout S5 and 6, and how and why he has to 'die' in order to learn to live again... See comments for vidder's thoughts - they echo my own very much!)
Doctor/River
Astronaut by
bloodypoetry.
Summary: Is it enough to have some love? River Song and the Doctor and timey whimey relationships.
Matches to Paper Dolls by
xandra_ptv.
Summary: 'Our book won't close.' River Song and the Doctor is like playing with fire, she destroyed time just to keep him alive.
The City and the River by
mirien3.
Summary: "Two centuries, since I first saw you weave, like a dancer, 'round my heart."
(Gorgeous, gorgeous vids about my OTP. <3)
Amy and River
Pond Girls by
mirien3.
Summary: Like mother, like daughter...
(So HBIC I can't even...)
And then I was inspired to 'write' some meta. Spoilers for the S6 finale, natch.
This came about after re-watching 'Pond Girls' rather a lot. Because it's not only Amy and River who are mirrored... The show goes out of its way to point out the parallels between the Doctor and Rory.

Of course, this can be flipped either way. Everyone mirrors everyone else. I'm too tired to go delving into all the mirrors right now, but I want to bring out another parallel, which ties in with the above:

Both mother and daughter get locked up in prisons... the Pandorica contains 'The Most Feared Being in all the Cosmos', a title which River can probably easily claim herself, considering the reason she's in Stormcage. Plus, despite the Doctor and Rory bearing the outwards symbols of Heroism, they are a doctor and a nurse - the roles they have chosen are ones of healing. Amy and River are far more dangerous one-on-one, and the ones who take charge. Just look at the finale - it's River and Amy who call the shots. Rory is an Army Captain, Amy's loyal right-hand-man, and the Doctor is a prisoner throughout nearly his whole time in the bubble universe. The initiative and agency lies completely with the women. (Which again is a nice flipside to AGMGTW when the men were the active ones...)

The new Florence and the Machine album is nothing but DW meta set to music. It is ridiculous. And by "ridiculous" I mean ridiculously wonderful.

Love the Florence vid the most. And, yes, the new Florence album seems insanely about the entire series 6 arc. And it's amazing.

Both? Plus, to quote the Seventh Doctor (from memory, when Ace asks him whether he's completely insane): "Anyone remotely interesting is at least partly mad!"

I need to listen to the whole thing. And read your fic and meta... I saw them, but have yet to actually read them. But I'll get there eventually!

"Landscape" is awesome and the lyrics....just...oh. And i love "No Light, No Light" as well. She's said she loves Dr Who. If this album had been released a lot later i would strongly suspect inspiration from Who, but i think just Divine coincidence!

Cool, the meta is a bit long. I clearly have too much time on my hands ! :)

Will make a point of hunting it down at some point! Love her work, but time... *waves hands about*
Cool, the meta is a bit long.
LOL! Have we met? Anything below 5000 words is short in my book... (I am SO WORDY it isn't even funny. I have novel-length fic. I honestly am beginning to worry what to do now I'm working fulltime...)

I got "lucky" when i lost quarter of my hours at work (bloody Tory cuts, grumble grumble) but actually it's been great having more time to do stuff i want to. Even though i'm skint.

... OK, that sounds just like me. Welcome to the club?

I can appreciate everything about this.
Also can I steal your icon? I've looked high and low for one like it, but this was the only one I could find, and it's nowhere as near as clear as yours.

Anyway, I shall snag it and credit '?' :)
And re. the DVD extras, then Promethia sent me this image on my birthday, and it was THE BEST PRESENT EVER! This was literally my reaction:

women in cages/ strongest
I wonder if all these cage images are a way to actually highlight how strong these women are. As if to say, "EVEN in a cage, I'm still the one you have to worry about."
I love how your metas make me think. :)
Re: women in cages/ strongest
*points to insanely long TWORS meta* I love the boxes. Love them, love them, love them.
What I love about the whole Idris scene is the reversal of "who owns who?". The Doctor talks about "his" TARDIS and she reverses it to "her" Doctor, "what makes you think I would ever give you back?"
Oh very much agreed. And again that's mirrored in Doctor/River. Her life is completely warped around him, yet the opposite is true too... She consistently calls him 'My Doctor' and he is - his arc this season was all about her. Take River away, and everything falls to pieces, including the Doctor.
I wonder if all these cage images are a way to actually highlight how strong these women are. As if to say, "EVEN in a cage, I'm still the one you have to worry about."
Again this ties in with A Christmas Carol and Abigail who chooses to go into the box... If the women are in the boxes, then the men are tied to them. The Doctor calls himself 'A Madman with a Box'. The Lone Centurion is defined by his devotion to the Pandorica.
I love how your metas make me think. :)
