Fandom and me.
Re. the current discussions, then
green_maia has an absolutely lovely post, that you should all read.
Personally, then I love my show, but I think I might be all argued out. I've been here 5 1/2 years after all, have written/read/debated every issue under the sun in that time, and now I'm happy just sitting here on the back porch in comfortable silence.
Still - if anyone wants to know my thoughts on Buffy and Spike, go here, because
the_royal_anna said it best:
'There's always a back doorstep, if you like – always a place the two of them can find where they can sit, side-by-side, and put everything else behind them.'

So I'm going to sit on the back pirch with you, Caroline and other like minded people. Comfortable silence is good. :)

*nods* Some of the discussions are perfectly polite and interesting and all that, it's just that I feel like I'm repeating myself. Usually I end up pointing to something I (or someone else) wrote years ago, because everything goes in circles...

It really is. ETA: To quote the post above:
'They never stoop under the weight of their history. Buffy taking Dawn to Spike in Villains is one of many examples that illustrates that. There's always a back doorstep, if you like – always a place the two of them can find where they can sit, side-by-side, and put everything else behind them.'

You cannot generalise the Buffy/Spike relationship. It is a story about a reformed vampire legend with a chip in his head and a newly resurrected Slayer. It is a story about a relationship, not a statement about relationships in general. You can't pull abstract ideas out of it, and apply them to any other situation, and judge it on that basis. Even the tidiest analogy in the world will never prove a point, only illustrate it.
And that's my 'ship.

And that's my 'ship, too.

And lemonade is lovely. I'm sure Spike and Buffy are having some too, in whatever future they manage to get.

Aw... thanks. :)
us newbies learning from the old timer fans that there's nothing new under the sun, so we should just sit on the porch and enjoy each other's company.
Finding common ground is the most important thing of all, I think.

HUGS ALL AROUND!

And that is *brilliant* seeing people debate stuff with such passion - new fans are wonderful. *♥ you all*
But quoting [info]the_royal_anna and sitting on the back porch is always a lovely way to spend time.
I figured it was something everyone could agree on, and thus stole the idea from Barb and Caroline. :)

Yup! She's like the prophetess of Spike/Buffy fandom, bringing us all together and telling the truth!

That's because Buffy is *awesome*!

Absolutely. She was the first fandom person I ever knew, and I am grateful to this day that she was my introduction to this wonderful and shiny world. :)

What an odd source of tension, I must say. I haven't seen much of it myself, but my list is small.
I hit the weary a long time ago and now even if I disagree, I try to just let it go. What's the point, ya know?

now I'm happy just sitting here on the back porch in comfortable silence. Comfortable silence suits me fine. And if we listen carefully, we might hear lovely whispers floating through the night, and some of them definitely will come from our beloved Buffy and Spike sitting near.

Same here. No one has quite her way with words, or her wonderfully positive outlook.

Indeed. They just are, and nothing anyone says can take away from them. :)

I mean, I love them always, but I am out of powder...

(And Spike ruined vampires? *laughs and laughs*)

I'll join you on the back porch. How about a nice cup of coffee?

And tea for me please. I'll bring some biscuits.
ETA: Also your icon is making me melt into a little puddle of shippiness...

Anyway, if you'd not read it before I'm extra happy that I linked it. The Whole of Fandom should read it. *nods*

I have actually enjoyed fandom since the show ended more because everyone seemed to mellow out. I mean shipper/ character wars were kind of pointless when Joss made the endings so vague. So besides the occasional kerfluffle things were pretty cool.
Then there comes the latest comic arc, and suddenly it's like we're all back in the middle of run of the show and I'm kind of frustrated. I was over the shipper wars and every other fandom kerfluffle the first go around, I don't need a redux.
So I'm going to sit next to you on the porch. I'd bring cookies but that's apparently inciting, so I made brownies instead, and in the interest of having everyone get along, I'm writing B/S/A crackfic. Make love not war.

Oh this. Fandom shouldn't be stressful, I very much agree.
I have actually enjoyed fandom since the show ended more because everyone seemed to mellow out.
Despite loving fandom with my whole heart, I will be forever grateful that I didn't find it until the show had ended.
I was over the shipper wars and every other fandom kerfluffle the first go around, I don't need a redux.
Exactly. And (re. the comics) then I don't understand those who still *need* Joss to prove something or other when it comes to their ship. I love Spike/Buffy, and it'd be nice to get a nod in s8, but... can't these people move on? Buffy and Angel broke up 11 years ago!
and in the interest of having everyone get along, I'm writing B/S/A crackfic. Make love not war.
And this is why you're awesome! *noms brownies*
