Fandom and me.

Re. the current discussions, then [livejournal.com profile] green_maia has an absolutely lovely post, that you should all read.

Personally, then I love my show, but I think I might be all argued out. I've been here 5 1/2 years after all, have written/read/debated every issue under the sun in that time, and now I'm happy just sitting here on the back porch in comfortable silence.

Still - if anyone wants to know my thoughts on Buffy and Spike, go here, because [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna said it best:

'There's always a back doorstep, if you like – always a place the two of them can find where they can sit, side-by-side, and put everything else behind them.'

[identity profile] calturner.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel exactly the same. I've benn here on LJ for six years and in fandom itself for a lot longer than that, so I've been there, done that and have absolutely no desire to go through it all over again.

So I'm going to sit on the back pirch with you, Caroline and other like minded people. Comfortable silence is good. :)

[identity profile] calturner.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be porch by the way. I have no idea what a pirch is. And I haven't benn anywhere either! *g*

I love everything [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna has ever written about Spike and Buffy. She always talks so much sense! :)

I will never get tired of re-reading that post by [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna. It encapsulates so much what I love about this ship, and with the current debate going on, I've been having trouble trying to formulate a response because I recognize both sides of the story, and relate so well with both Spike and Buffy. I think I'll join you on your porch, and bring us some strawberry lemonade.

Anna's point is very well taken.

And that's my 'ship, too.

[identity profile] eilowyn.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love our ship so much, because there is so much comfort to be found on the back porch of the Revello house.

[identity profile] cindergal.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, me too. I'm a bit burnt out on it all.

Ha! I haven't been in the fandom very long, so I haven't experienced that weariness. But quoting [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna and sitting on the back porch is always a lovely way to spend time.

[identity profile] eilowyn.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's my feeling too . . . the weariness hasn't hit me personally, but when people I love are feeling weary I just wanna hug them. And I think that's the best part of this fandom - us newbies learning from the old timer fans that there's nothing new under the sun, so we should just sit on the porch and enjoy each other's company.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly. I feel so bad for all the tired people! But our generation hasn't hit that point yet.

HUGS ALL AROUND!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw! I really am thrilled to death whenever I see someone new enter our little corner of fandom because I'm new and my love is still strong and I always come to these things late and I'm petrified of fandom dying out! But it doesn't seem likely to do that anytime soon, for which I am glad.

Yup! She's like the prophetess of Spike/Buffy fandom, bringing us all together and telling the truth!

[identity profile] infinitewhale.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)

What an odd source of tension, I must say. I haven't seen much of it myself, but my list is small.

I hit the weary a long time ago and now even if I disagree, I try to just let it go. What's the point, ya know?

[identity profile] infinitewhale.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)

Porches are where it's at. :)

Occasionally I think fandom just gets bored and someone kicks up a fuss to have something to talk about. The S8 comics have kept us entertained with their cracky-crack, but sometimes people rant for the sake of ranting.

I just wanted to say how much I love that quote since I first read it. ('There's always a back doorstep, if you like – always a place the two of them can find where they can sit, side-by-side, and put everything else behind them.' <3 )

[identity profile] fangfaceandrea.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
yep, there's nothing new under the sun, it's nice that discussion doesn't die but sometimes I go, do *I* really need to go over this again?

[identity profile] fangfaceandrea.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Awmp's icons from Summer of Spike were just too cute! I'm nostalgic too. :-(

[livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna 's posts on Spuffy always put me in a wonderful mood.

now I'm happy just sitting here on the back porch in comfortable silence. Comfortable silence suits me fine. And if we listen carefully, we might hear lovely whispers floating through the night, and some of them definitely will come from our beloved Buffy and Spike sitting near.

[identity profile] avrelia.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
There is another Spike vs. Buffy argument? Oh my. I cannot get worked out about it anymore. I don't even go up in arms when I see someone saying that Spike ruined all vampires... (true story).

I mean, I love them always, but I am out of powder...

[identity profile] zanthinegirl.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
You know I was just needing something happy, and that essay works nicely. There's comfort food, but who knew there's comfort meta?

I'll join you on the back porch. How about a nice cup of coffee?

[identity profile] revdorothyl.livejournal.com 2010-05-21 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
That's a great post from [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna on Spuffy and love in action -- thanks for linking to it!

Fandom has been frustrating the heck out of me for a lot of reasons, which stinks since this is supposed to be my release.

I have actually enjoyed fandom since the show ended more because everyone seemed to mellow out. I mean shipper/ character wars were kind of pointless when Joss made the endings so vague. So besides the occasional kerfluffle things were pretty cool.

Then there comes the latest comic arc, and suddenly it's like we're all back in the middle of run of the show and I'm kind of frustrated. I was over the shipper wars and every other fandom kerfluffle the first go around, I don't need a redux.

So I'm going to sit next to you on the porch. I'd bring cookies but that's apparently inciting, so I made brownies instead, and in the interest of having everyone get along, I'm writing B/S/A crackfic. Make love not war.

The royal anna's essay was the very first post I ever read on lj. Thanks for the reminder, I read it all over again and love it every bit as much or maybe even more, even tho it makes me cry.
