See I never saw that. It was so obvious to me that she loved Spike. And it had to be him also - I thought it was very strange when I found fandom that there were people who believed that she didn't. Or that he didn't believe her.

A lot of people have traumatic teenage years. Doesn't mean that they're dommed forever! :)
